Job Description
Job Summary:
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in the healthcare team by providing essential patient care and support to individuals in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living centers. CNAs work under the supervision of licensed nurses and are responsible for assisting with the daily activities and overall well-being of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Help patients with mobility, including transferring and repositioning.
Monitor and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
Provide basic wound care, as instructed by the nursing staff.
Administer medication under the guidance of a licensed nurse.
Observations and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of patient interactions and care provided.
Report any changes in a patient’s condition or behavior to the nursing staff.
Document food and fluid intake, as well as output.
Communication:
Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing their concerns and providing emotional support.
Collaborate with the nursing team and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Relay information about a patient’s condition and needs during shift handovers.
Infection Control:
Adhere to strict infection control procedures, including hand hygiene and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and sanitary patient environment.
Mobility and Rehabilitation:
Assist in physical therapy exercises and rehabilitation activities.
Encourage and support patients in maintaining or improving their mobility and independence.
Comfort and Well-Being:
Ensure patients are comfortable and have access to necessities.
Offer emotional support and companionship to patients, particularly in long-term care settings.
Safety:
Identify and address potential safety hazards for patients and report them promptly.
Follow established safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with other CNAs, nurses, and healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care.
Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of a state-approved CNA training program and certification.
Current CNA certification in the state of employment.
CPR certification may be required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients as needed.
Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
